the art of forgetting

He was still not dead.

I had pushed him, shoved him

strangled him, choked him

stabbed him, shot him

and still he breathed.

I decided to form a plan

forget him.

If I didn’t think of him

his existence might still be there

but would be of no importance to me.

right?

hard trying to forget something that breathes down the back of your neck with every chance it gets.

hard trying to forget something that you have tried repeatedly to kill.

killing was the last resort

so when that didn’t work

I went further.

What is further than

pushing, shoving

strangling, choking

stabbing, shooting?

you may ask.

Forgetting.

Once I well and truly mastered the art of forgetting

after practising on everything and everyone

I ever knew or loved.

Only then was I able to forget him

and oh god

it worked.
