subtle, unbreakable
unfocused, unfazed
all dark but the light of my gaze
observing the change
as it unfurls: all this rage.
the tips of the fern bending back and back
subtle, unbreakable
‘til it’s ready to crack.
dust to powder to air in my fingers
breathe in to smell but none of it lingers
ashes float up in the back of my mind
haunted by a ghost made up of your light.
I’m standing here, the world is in pieces
I pick the paper up and smooth out its creases:
a poem from the past, preserved by time
the feelings are lost, all that’s left is the rhyme.
the rage bubbles up, I might overflow
my only choice now
is letting it go.
