hanged, drawn and quartered

why do I subject myself to such torture?

I didn’t have to stay

I didn’t have to go

and so,

I chose to do neither.

little did I know that Neither

represented this grey slodge

in which I now reside,

fingers gripping to the rocks

on either side.

two opposing cliffs

between them the abyss

grows deeper and deeper

wider and wider.

I’m being hanged, drawn and quartered.

My choice is my crime.

My pain is my punishment.
